What do we say when we don't speak...

In today’s fast paced society, where time passes through our lives through events of all kinds, we are constantly evolving among invisible social areas. This group spirit is not only the passive resultant of a gregarious instinct, it creates a collective imprint, a collective unconsciousness, a collective memory, whatever the name, it is like an accumulation of energies nourished by the feelings, desires, ideals or fears of all our humanity.

As an artist, art brings its share of human confrontations and my inspiration is born in an unconscious form that is defined by a sensory receptivity that absorbs this egregore. What if we were able to generate together this shared consciousness? How would we translate it into words? How would we look at the world as a whole? How to analyze it? How would we understand it?

It is from these notions that my greatest concern, or rather my artistic unconscious, gives me the impression of being stuck in the existence of another. It creates a tension of emotions and feelings, which do not belong to me, but that I can transpose on canvas, leaving the pictorial trace of the emergence of a group spirit.

My approach is intuitively intuitive, certainly, but later, it is unraveled in the narrative form, to disappear under strata and layers of color, spots and footprints. Nothing is completed so long as there is no finality

Bio

Montreal-based artist Véronique Besançon was born in 1959 to a French father and Russian-Hungarian mother in Marrakesh. In 1965, her family moved to Paris where she pursued university studies in clinical psychology. Being human is already her first concern and challenges her in its complexity and essence. By focusing on the development of the person, she moved towards the field of pedagogy. She later moved to Montreal in 1997 for university where she developed an instant and profound crush with the city. She proceeded with a teaching career in educational technology at the Université de Montréal. From a young age, she explores art from improvisation methods in contemporary dance, theater, automatic writing, painting.

Self-taught artist, and since more than a decade, she explores the amalgam of pigments in a free gesture of pictorial abstraction. As colors and words draw her reflection, Véronique Besançon develops an artistic research that uses personal interiority to try to understand human complexity. She creates atmospheres that establish a dialogue between her characters. They reflect emotionally driven places and moments, flashes of stories, all of which bring out the human essence.

Véronique Besançon’s work has been showcased internationally at both private and public events. Her artistic career has been documented with books of her paintings and poems.
